2921-34 Requirements for the Design and Installation of Domestic and Small Commercial Electric Vehicle Charging Installations

This course is for those who have completed the formal assessments to give them the 'Approved Electrician' Status as recognised by the JIB, and is a short course to give access to the requirements of EV charging installations for Domestic or smaller commercial installations.

For those who do not have the recognised JIB grading, this course cannot be undertaken as the final certification will not be granted.

So what is involved in this course:

2921-305 unit is an online exam which you have studied for, and also a declaration that you are on the correct course and holding the recognised qualifications or JIB Gold Card.

The exam is undertaken at our Derby centre

The declaration by us is for the exam/certificate claim

Confirmed Level 3 pre-requisites 2921-801. which we need to confirm and see your qualifications required to undertake this course.

What does this course cover:

The purpose of this qualification is to provide a comprehensive understanding of the specific and supplementary requirements related to the design, installation, and maintenance of electric vehicle (EV) supply equipment, and associated circuits, in domestic and small commercial settings.

These requirements align with the current Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) Code of Practice for Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Installation, the most relevant Regulations in relation to EV charging infrastructure, and the latest National Occupational Standards (NOS) outcomes as follows:
BSEEVCP01 Install and connect enclosures, electrical cables, conductors and wiring for EVCP systems and equipment; BSEEVCP02 Inspect, test and commission EVCP systems and equipment;
BSEEVCP03 Identify and rectify faults in EVCP systems and equipment, and BSEEVCP04 Maintain EVCP systems and equipment.
The qualification covers additional methods of protecting against open PEN conductor faults and how to assess if an installation has an issue with diverted neutral current. It also covers smart functions in electrical vehicle charging installations and relevant items within the installation as a whole.

Integration into prosumers’ electrical installations, including the option of electric vehicles reverse feeding into the installation and/or supply grid.

What opportunities for progression are there?

On successful completion of this qualification, learners can progress on to City & Guilds Level 4 Award in the Design and Verification of Electrical Installations.

As well as other CPD qualifications within Electrotechnical.

How is this qualification recognised?

The Joint Industry Board & Electrotechnical Certification Scheme recognises this qualification as CPD for an ECS Gold Card Installation Electrician, Maintenance Electrician, or Domestic Electrician.

This qualification can be contained in the MyECS CPD record and printed on the reverse of the ECS card.
This qualification has been endorsed by TESP (The Electrotechnical Skills Partnership) and awarded the Electrician Plus kitemark.

Total Qualification Time (TQT)

Total Qualification Time (TQT) is the number of notional hours which represents an estimate of the total amount of time that could reasonably be expected for a learner to demonstrate the achievement of the level of attainment necessary for the award of a qualification.
TQT comprises of the following two elements:
1) the number of hours that an awarding organisation has assigned to a qualification for guided learning
2) an estimate of the number of hours a learner will reasonably be likely to spend in preparation, study or any other form of participation in education or training, including assessment, which takes place as directed by – but, unlike guided learning, not under the immediate guidance or supervision of – a lecturer, supervisor, tutor or other appropriate provider of education or training
