This course goes through the current regulations for UK Building Regulations.

You will need a current copy of the Building Regulations (Brown) as the new amendment 2 takes effect of BS7671 changes.

Why and who should have this qualification?

Our profession must keep up to date with regulatory changes to ensure our installations comply with legal and local building requirements that may be statutory and alter the way we might need to install cables into and around specific structures.

This is both a requirement from insurance and building control when we go through certain structures and pass our cables between buildings or rooms we need to ensure that we comply with the rules and regulations for both safety and fire requirements.

You will need a copy of the IET Building Regulations to undertake this course as all information will be referenced to that book.

What Careers will this help with

To earn this qualification, you'll complete one core unit:

  • Building regulations for electrical installations in dwellings.
Level 3 Certificate in the Building Regulations for Electrical Installations in Dwellings (2393-10)

AIM OF THIS QUALIFICATION

Government-approved Document P (electrical safety) came into effect on 1 January 2005.
For the first time, the mainstream work of domestic electrical installers became subject to the
requirements and procedures associated with Building Control.

Domestic electrical installers need to appreciate the requirements that apply to building work they
carry out in connection with their electrical work, and they need to understand the way that Building Control works and the procedures that need to be followed.

The primary aim of this knowledge-based level 3 qualification is to enable practicing electricians,
operating in the domestic environment, to gain an understanding of how electrical installations in
dwellings must comply with all relevant Building Regulations.

This qualification does not deal with how to meet the technical electrical requirements when
carrying out such work.

This would be covered by the City & Guilds Level 3 Certificate in the requirements for electrical installations (BS 7671 2008) (2382-22 Amendment 2).

It is suitable for those working in the building trades and others who require a working knowledge of how electrical installations in dwellings can affect the building construction.
Due to the experience recommendations, this qualification is restricted to 18+ learners.
To summarise, the aim of this qualification is to:

  • • Meet the needs of candidates who work in the Building Service Engineering sector such as Electricians, who need to be able to demonstrate knowledge of the Building Regulations for electrical installations in dwellings and associated areas in England and Wales.

Please note that this qualification is only suitable for those practicing their trade in England and
Wales due to there being different regulations in Scotland and Northern Ireland

The Exam End point assessment:

This will be an Evolve online exam taken at our Derby Centre when you are ready and is split up as follows in one exam.
